The W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation (FCFC) at the University of Montana, Missoula is hiring multiple faculty positions, and we strongly encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and modes of inquiry.  We recognize and honor that we occupy the ancestral lands of the Salish and Kalispel nations, we are committed to building and supporting an equitable and inclusive culture, and we encourage multiple ways of knowing.  The open positions are, with priority application review dates for each:

  • Director, Institute of Tourism and Recreation Research (Jan 17, 2022)
  • Assistant Professor of Environmental Social Science (Feb 6, 2022)
  • Assistant Professor of Quantitative Ecology (Feb 6, 2022)
  • A. Franke Chair of Forest Conservation (Feb 13, 2022)

Details on each of these positions, and on the college as a whole, can be found at https://www.cfc.umt.edu.  Both the search chairs and college leadership welcome questions from any interested candidate.

These hires are part of a larger investment across all major portions of FCFC, a college that is recognized as an international leader in the broad fields of environmental sustainability and natural resource management.  In keeping with our mission to address complex social ecological challenges, the College has notable strengths in both the social and natural sciences, and enjoys a supportive, collaborative culture in which students and faculty readily cross disciplinary lines.  FCFC includes longstanding and highly ranked programs in Wildlife Biology, Forestry, and Parks, Tourism and Recreation Management, as well as a rapidly growing new program in Environmental Science and Sustainability, and multiple faculty who contribute to UM’s exceptional reputation and impact in ecology.

The successful applicants will join the college at an exciting and critical time, during which we are seeing record levels of research accomplishment and student interest, a growing Native American Natural Resource Program, and a quickly changing Western landscape in which faculty have extensive opportunities to engage in shaping the future of natural resource management.  That mission is enhanced by FCFC’s Montana Forest and Conservation Experiment Station, a statewide agency of the Montana University System. New faculty members will also join a college that has a true international reach, with a long history of faculty and students working and studying all over the world, as part of our longstanding commitment to interdisciplinarity in seeking solutions for a more sustainable planet.
